Chinese Media starting cover up the truth about Wukan
After several months of continual protest,
Wukan experienced a brief break.
The Guangdong authorities had made promises to the villagers,
which have yet to be fulfilled leaving villagers unsatisfied.
A village representative claimed, Xue Jinbo’s death was
officially claimed to have been a heart attack.
However, recently media revealed Xue was beaten to death
in the detention centre.
Xue Jinbo is now a hero in the eyes of Wukan villagers,
yet his death remains a mystery.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) said Xue died of
a heart attack, denying that he was beaten to death.
On Dec.31, China News Week newspaper reported that one of
the detainees, Zhang Jiancheng,
questions the causes behind Xue’s death whilst in police custody.
There were in total four detainees including Zhang Jiancheng,
Hong Ruichao, Zhuang Liehong and Xue Jinbo.
26 year old Zhang told China News Week that Xue’s death
is unacceptable.
He revealed whilst in detention, there is an unofficial
prison regulation: New detainees receive 3 punches.
If he doesn’t submit he is subjected to cold water treatment,
continually poured all over him.
Zhang said on the night of Xue’s death, he heard
someone shouting and crying for a very long time.
Dec. 31 Zhang Jiancheng claimed to Hong Kong Apple Daily,
Xue was beaten to death.
Zhang also exposed, in the detention centre the police
pretended to see nothing.
Yet police reward old prisoners, who beat the new prisoners,
according to their achievements.
Zhang said the authorities warned him, nor allowed him
to be interviewed during his bail period.
However, Zhang said police in Shantou are corrupted,
beating Xue to death,
yet later reporting Xue had died of illness.
Zhang remains determined to speak out.
Since Wukan villagers’ protest, the media in China reports
the same one voice with the authorities’.
But China News Week dares to oppose it,
questioning Xue’s death.
Under the CCP’s controlling of the press,
what consequences will China News Week have to face?
A chief reporter of Southern Metropolis Daily told NTD,
at the beginning of the Wukan’s protest few media in mainland China reported on it.
After Wang Yang, the Guangdong provincial committee secretary
stepped out, reportedly claiming to find resolution to the problem.
Southern Metropolis Daily reporter wrote: “Not only China News
Week reported the incident, many other media also reported.
Although it is not known what was said by other media”.
The reporter believes Xue Jinbo died in police custody,
that his body has wound marks and the authorities can not avoid the facts.
Southern Metropolis Daily (SMD) reporter claims:
“The authorities said they will bring a peaceful solution,
Xue’s family will not accept this.
If the officials want to resolve the problem sincerely,
the facts can not be covered up.
Netizens have spread this issue over the internet claiming,
can the media not report on it? It is believed not!”
This (SMD) reporter believes, if China News Daily dares
to publish it, they should be clear on the direction of their report.
He thinks the report will have no bad impact
upon China News Week.
Southern Metropolis Daily reported, Guangdong provincial
officials will transfer the responsibility of Xue’s death to the lower level officials’ shoulders.
Its like Sun Zhigang’s incident which happened a while back.
When higher officials wanted to solve the problem,
Sun was beaten to death; the incident was exposed by the media.
China News Week reported, after three months of
protest Wukan incident has reached a turning point.
Claiming this was largely due to a visit from CCP official of
Guangdong provincial committee deputy secretary, Zhu Mingguo.
